Join fellow Virginia Tech alumni to explore the Helping Elders Access Resources (HEAR) program.
Aisling Clardy and Reed Bohn, managers of the Elder Justice Learning and Research Hub Project with the Virginia Center on Aging at Virginia Commonwealth University, will lead participants through the program.
HEAR uses positive, solution-focused videos and discussions to educate Virginians on elder justice and ageism. Participants will learn to recognize and respond to elder mistreatment and the role ageism plays. The program aims to strengthen community action and to connect older adults, families, and caregivers to information and local support resources.
Elder mistreatment is a serious and worsening social problem that affects the well-being of older adults, families, caregivers, and communities. Society can be bombarded with the message that aging should be avoided, leaving many older citizens feeling disconnected or undervalued and placing them at greater risk of mistreatment.
Registration is $10 and includes lunch, a HEAR workbook, and a $5 gift to Virginia Tech's Hokie Wellness Fund.
