***NOTE: WRWA will be hosting another cleanup on Sunday, November 3rd, 10-1, along the Westfield River (behind the berm on River Street) in West Springfield. Hopefully you can join us for that one too! More information to come soon.
Our watersheds are critical resources that must be protected and preserved, so we give certain areas along the banks a good cleaning twice a year. If we don't no one else will! So please join us and unite with fellow river-lovers...it's both fun and rewarding!
Our cleanups are in honor of Jack Coughlin, the unsung hero who was out every day for many years cleaning the streets and riverfronts of Agawam on his own. Sadly, Jack was hit by a car in January 2021 and passed away in April 2021. He was at many of our cleanups and worked on legislation to help keep our resources clean. He had been pushing for the "Nip Bottles Bill", which would incentivize disposal of miniature “nip” bottles properly by placing a deposit fee on them. Unfortunately, the "Nip Bottle Bill" did not make it out of committee by the deadline this session. But please contact your legislators anyways, if you haven't already, urging them to push for similar bills next session.
Thank you!
