Afternoon Talk - Into the Mystic, Margery Kempe
Advertisement
Margery Kempe was a wealthy merchant burgess's daughter, born in King's Lynn, in the early 1370s. After having 14 children, she gave up her worldly life as a housewife and businesswoman. She married Jesus symbolically, wore only white and proceeded to travel on dangerous pilgrimages on foot and by boat all over England, Europe and Jerusalem. After returning to Lynn, she dictated her extraordinary life to a scribe, The Book of Margery Kempe. Mirabelle Dominé-Walley and Luke Walker are currently in the final stages of producing a film about her, here in King's Lynn, and this talk will explore the choices they have made in representing such an extraordinary life on screen.
