Afterburn is an aerial art installation that will fly high above Intendencia Street in historic downtown Pensacola. Friends of Downtown Pensacola has enlisted world-renowned artist Tomislav Topic to create this colorful, dynamic new addition to Pensacola’s cultural scene. It’s a unique kind of public art that will offer an immersive experience for visitors to enjoy, photograph and share.
Afterburn, the name a nod to Pensacola’s Blue Angels demonstration flight team, will shift and move with the breeze, allowing you to experience art in a personal, ever-changing way. Visible to enjoy both day and night, it is free and open to the public. The display also offers a festive outdoor venue for organizations to offer complementary events and activities such as opera, symphony, yoga, magic shows, impromptu theatre and others.
For more than a decade, Tomislav Topic’s work has garnered international acclaim, with his installations and murals showcased at festivals, exhibitions, and artist residencies across Germany, Switzerland, France, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain, Greece, Mauritius, Qatar, Georgia, the United States, and China. By blending the uplifting power of beauty with the logic of science, Topic creates pieces that inspire audiences to view their surroundings through a heightened lens. His art resonates on a global scale, serving as a unifying form of expression that brings people of diverse cultural backgrounds together.
Afterburn will officially open on Thursday, October 30 through the end of Foo Foo Fest and beyond. A special Foo Foo launch party will be held on Wednesday, October 29 at 5:00 pm, directly under the installation on Intendencia Street. This project is funded by a generous grant from Foo Foo Festival!
