After5NewYork - Inside UFOs: After the Cover-Up Began
About this Event
A Conversation on UFOs, Secrecy, and the Making of a Modern Mystery
Join a history educator and researcher for Inside UFOs: After the Cover-Up Began, a fascinating exploration of the pivotal years that shaped the modern UFO phenomenon. From the first contactee stories of the 1950s and the rise of UFO literature to military investigations, secretive flying disc projects, and growing calls for government transparency, this conversation traces how UFOs evolved from a fringe curiosity into one of the most enduring mysteries of the twentieth century.
Together, we’ll examine the individuals, documents, and events that defined this era. We’ll explore the claims of early contactees, the military reports that documented unexplained aerial encounters, and the antigravity and flying disc research projects taking place behind the scenes during the Cold War. We’ll also discuss the efforts of former CIA Director Admiral Roscoe Hillenkoetter and others who pushed for congressional hearings and greater public scrutiny of the UFO issue.
This is not a conversation about proving or disproving UFOs. It’s an exploration of how a mystery was documented, debated, and ultimately left unresolved. Whether you’re a longtime UFO enthusiast, a history buff, a skeptic, or simply curious about one of the most controversial subjects of the modern era, you’ll leave with a deeper understanding of the people, programs, and unanswered questions that defined the UFO story before the government officially closed the book in 1969.
