After5Houston - Why Everything Hurts: Modern Life and Your Body
About this Event
The Science of Why Everything Hurts: What Modern Life Is Doing to Your Body
An Interactive Conversation About Bodies, Screens, and the Pace of Modern Life
"He was made to go six kilometers an hour, and he goes a thousand. He was made to eat when he was hungry and to sleep when he was sleepy; instead, he obeys a clock." - Jacques Ellul
We spend a lot of energy worrying about what technology is doing to our attention, our politics, and our relationships. But what about our bodies? The human body was shaped over millions of years for a slower, more physical world, and it is quietly paying the price for the one we actually live in.
Join Dr. Daniel Lin, a Doctor of Physical Therapy who has spent over a decade helping people across the country move and feel better, for a look at how modern technology and culture are reshaping our health. Drawing on science, humor, and more than his share of clinical war stories, Dr. Lin will unpack why so many of us hurt, and, more importantly, what we can actually do about it.
This is not a lecture with a slide deck you will forget by morning. It is an interactive conversation, so bring your aches, your habits, and your questions. Whether you are chained to a desk, glued to a screen, or just wondering why your back suddenly has opinions, you will leave with practical, doable ways to live better in a body built for a different era.
Don't miss this chance to connect with your After5Society.
What we'll explore:
- How the pace and posture of modern life quietly work against the body
- The mismatch between how we evolved to move, eat, and sleep and how we actually do
- Why everyday aches, stiffness, and fatigue show up earlier than they should
- Tangible, realistic solutions you can start using right away
About the Speaker: Dr. Daniel Lin received his Doctorate in Physical Therapy at Rutgers University in New Jersey and has been helping various patient populations throughout the US for over 11 years. Outside of clinical practice, he enjoys making stickers and pins about healthcare humor, taking care of his German shepherd, and playing mildly competitive pickleball.
