About this Event

A Science-Driven Conversation About Activity, Evolution & Living Better

Join a marine biologist and Harvard Ph.D. candidate for Activity Maxxing: Why Humans Should Act More Like Microbes, a fascinating conversation exploring what some of Earth's smallest organisms can teach us about living healthier, more resilient, and more connected lives. From microbes that cooperate, adapt, and constantly respond to their environments to the hidden ecosystems shaping life around us, we'll uncover surprising lessons about movement, community, and thriving in a changing world.

This isn't a technical biology lecture. It's a lively, interactive discussion that connects cutting-edge microbiology and evolution to everyday human life, challenging how we think about health, productivity, relationships, and the way we move through the world. Expect surprising science, fascinating stories, and plenty of "I never knew that!" moments.

About the Speaker:

Brooke Travis is a marine biologist and Ph.D. candidate at Harvard University studying life in Earth's most extreme environments. Building on her marine science background from Cornell University, her research focuses on deep-sea ecosystems around hydrothermal vents, where organisms survive without sunlight through remarkable symbiotic relationships with bacteria. Brooke's work explores how microbes and other organisms adapt, cooperate, and thrive under extreme conditions, revealing powerful lessons about resilience, evolution, and the interconnectedness of life. Known for making complex science accessible, she brings curiosity, clarity, and awe to conversations about the hidden biological systems that shape our world.
