About this Event

Cambrian Players is pleased to present After the Fire by Matthew MacKenzie and directed by Stefani Celine. ~ PLEASE NOTE: This is a Wednesday Evening performance. ~

What are we capable of when pushed to our breaking point?
And will we still have time for drinks at the local Boston Pizza afterwards?

Set in the aftermath of the wildfire that nearly destroyed Fort McMurray in the summer of 2016, After the Fire by Matthew MacKenzie is a dark comedy centred around two couples whose lives have been deeply affected by the ruin left in its wake.

Sisters Laura and Carmell have been channeling their devastation into their daughters’ hockey team, as their husbands Barry and Ty grapple with their own demons while digging a very big hole. As dark secrets of the past slowly get revealed, will they provide a way forward to heal, or just reveal the consequences of giving in to the temptation of taking matters into our own hands?

Driven by escalating tension and constantly derailed by cosmic comedy, this deceptively simple and deeply spiritual play is instantly relatable to all who have lost and then somehow managed to just keep on going. A 2019 Dora Award Nominee for Outstanding New Play, After the Fire is equally explosive and powerful, building to unexpected conclusions.

Don’t miss this absolutely moving, funny, and audaciously strange exploration of recent Canadian history and cyclical smallness that sometimes is life.
Content Advisory: Please be aware that this play contains adult language and mature themes.
