Since 1990, researchers at the Batten School & VIMS have partnered with the Fisheries Service of the Maryland Department of Natural Resources (DNR) to operate the annual Bay-wide Blue Crab Winter Dredge Survey. This survey has allowed us to estimate the total population of blue crabs throughout Chesapeake Bay, identify year-to-year trends in abundance, and assess the effects of the blue crab fishery (both before and after management actions were implemented in 2008 to address stresses to the blue crab population in previous decades). Dr. Rom Lipcius, Professor at the Batten School & VIMS, will provide attendees with a look at the history and future of blue crabs in the Chesapeake Bay.Registration is required.
After Hours lectures are designed for an adult audience.
