About this Event
AfroPortals Earth Day Activation
Join Artist As First Responder in the AfroPortals for a conversation on how cannabis dispensaries in the Bay Area have evolved—from grassroots medical collectives with unmarked doors to sleek retail spaces that host game nights.
We’ll discuss the impact of legalization, the rise of corporate cannabis, and the fight to keep equity at the center of the industry. We'll also discuss the different uses of cannabis: medicinal for health benefits and recreational for social enjoyment. In this connection, you will explore how cannabis serves various purposes and its impact on health, culture, and society.
Hosted by AAFR Studio Assistant Marcella Sanchez and AAFR Climate Artist in Residence Ietef Vita in Oakland. In conversation with the São Vicente Portal: (Luciana Jorge and Diego Eduardo) and the Mexico City Portal.
The AfroPortals Project Space & Archive is proud to host a partnership with Shared_Studios to bring together communities around the globe for transformative conversations as if in the same room. Housed alongside AfroPortals, Shared_Studios explores the power of art, arts activism, and its influence across the continent and throughout the Black African Diaspora.
