In celebration of July 25—Day of Afro-Latina, Afro-Caribbean, and Diaspora Women—the Afro-Latino Festival presents an intimate evening with acclaimed Afro-Peruvian poet, songwriter, activist, and writer Mónica Carrillo Zegarra.

Marking the release of her new compositions, this live performance weaves poetry, song, and ancestral memory into a powerful ritual of voice and resistance. Immerse yourself in the richness of Afro-Peruvian culture through evocative storytelling, rhythm, and sound—honoring the legacy and presence of Afro-diasporic women. Afro-Peruvian spoken word enters into dialogue with Afro-Mexican, Afro-Colombian and Indigenous musical forms, generating a layered, transnational soundscape where diasporic identities are negotiated and reimagined in real time.
