Learn to dance or improve your Afro-Cuban dances

Dancing is one of the best ways to relieve stress and bring happiness to your life. We offer Afro-Cuban classes that are full of fun along with great techniques and tips, by professional and acclaimed international dancer and teacher Damarys Farres

About this event

Learn the different dances of the Orishas (African deities of the Yoruba/Lucumi tradition) as well as the rhythms, movements, and stories behind the dances. Involving undulations, contractions, and intricate hand and head movements, sometimes using different props, this class is suitable for various levels: beginners can learn the fundamentals while more advanced students can focus on technique.

Note: This is not for masters, but for those interested in more detailed, concise & structured information about our Cuban/Afro-Cuban diaspora.

?Classes are In-person in a dance studio near Manor House, with an online option for those that cannot join us in London.

?You don't need to attend all 4 workshops to join us, still we advise you do if you would like to improve and take your dance lessons to a different level, to benefit from these 4 workshops as we will be concentrating on different dance aspects and orisha on each workshop.

WORKSHOPS

All dance workshops start with Warm-Up so please be ready to start 5mins before the first class, they will finish with cool-down and stretching exercises.

All workshops are different and all levels are welcome (from complete beginners to professional dance/teachers) – however, please check the program. Some changes may be necessary

Each "ciclo" will commence with a theoretical seminar with insightful information on what you are going to be learning in your practical dance & musicality workshops. During the practical workshops, we are going to be working on correct style technique, body isolation, male-female style, footwork, musicality, coordination, body movements, isolation plus. In some workshops as per the style required, we are also concentrating on partner work as well, which will have a different approach.
