Maris Pihlap is a singer, producer and DJ, whose journey started in traditional music as a fiddle player, but over time led her to an alternative path of electronic music and songwriting.
Her awareness of tradition is reflected in her soft and sensitive sound, which has an Estonian introspective quality to it, even in the most foreign-sounding beats.
With her debut album, she immediately moved under the wing of TIKS rekords at the beginning of 2021, and still selects music as a resident DJ at their parties. Lately inspired by West- and South-African sounds, her latest mini-album “Kui Nad Vaid Teaks…” immediately stood out as one of the first Estonian amapiano records ever. With that release (and more to come), her DJ-sets have become an effortless infusion of African and Estonian traditions and so much more.
