CLASS OUTLINES:
BEGINNERS (Level 1)
This class is designed both for new players and those who've had some formal instruction in playing djembe and West African percussion. Over the course of the term you'll learn how to sit comfortably with your drum, how to play at least 2 of the 3 basic sounds and how to start speaking the language of djembe music. We cover one rhythm per term which will normally include learning two djembe parts, a musical break and some simple solo phrases.
I provide video material via YouTube to help remind you what we've done each week so can do some practice between classes if you'd like, or even just watch the videos as a little memory jog.
Classes are supported by a small backing ensemble who play the dunduns to provide a backing track to our grooves.
I have drums available for purchase ranging from $270 for entry level, or you can also book a hire drum.
Terms and Conditions:
If you purchase the ticket option to bring your own drum, it must be an adult sized djembe or similar. Bringing along your kid's toy bongos won't do!
I provide access to a YouTube playlist which contains videos of all learning materials. These are uploaded following the classes in which new material is introduced. That allows you to learn all of the material at your own pace whether you attend classes or not.
If you can't make any number of face to face class due to travel, and any consequences of your travel, or if you are unwell then you still have access to the material and no refund or credit is due.
If due to serious ill health or other extenuating circumstances you're not able to continue with face to face classes after or before commencing the term then we can talk about a reasonable resolution, which may include course credit or refund of the unused amount.
To create the best learning environment class size will be capped
