Modern Ethnic Fashion Week is a three-day charity event that combines live music, an art exhibit, dance, and a fashion runway show. The Kickoff Party is also a way to celebrate Juneteenth with African American fashion designers and a live music showcase featuring an African headline band from the Ivory Coast. Being that Abidjan is a sister city to San Francisco, this is a coalition of cultures that brings both communities together.
Proceeds from the event will go toward the African Arts Academy to help establish an after school and summer program that will provide African dance, and drumming, lessons at the Bayview Southeast Community Center. The program will serve kids, from ages 5 to 17, in the historically underserved Bayview Hunters Point neighborhood of San Francisco and the black community at large. This fundraising event is an effort to help parents of low, income families enroll their kids in classes at very little or no cost. The goal is to help reduce gun violence and keep the children off the street and away from substance abuse.
