Join us for the Africa Forum as we discuss African drum traditions in the Americas featuring the film: Negra, Yo Soy Bella and more.
About this Event

The theme of this year's Africa Forum is “Uplifting the African Diaspora through the Cultural Arts.” September's program will examine the film "Negra, Yo Soy Bella" and archival footage of various drumming traditions from Africa. Our discussants are:

  • Amira Millicent Davis, EdM, PhD, Educator Activist , Independent Scholar
  • Baba Tyehimba Mtu, Founder of Ngoma Ku Sema
  • Dr. Obari Adeye Cartman, Elder in Training with Bolozi Wazee
  • T. Ayo Alston, Executive Director of Alyodele Drum and Dance
  • Enoch Williamson, SunDrummer
  • Dr. Yaoundé Olu, Founder and Artistic Director of Drum Divas

This will be a hybrid event, and will be held at the Carruthers Center for Inner City Studies and online via Zoom.
