About this Event

AELERT Regulatory Masterclass on AI and Emerging Technologies ft. Professor Gary Marchant

June 26 | Melbourne

The Melbourne masterclass has a dedicated subtheme Regulating Emerging Technologies: Designing Adaptive Frameworks, addressing institutional design and system-level governance.

Emerging technologies do not wait for regulatory frameworks to catch up. This session examines how regulators can design institutions and frameworks that are built to adapt, and are responsive to rapid change without sacrificing consistency, accountability or public trust.

Event overview

Artificial intelligence and emerging technologies are reshaping the industries regulators oversee, and the tools regulators use. Frameworks built for a slower world are being asked to govern one that won't slow down.

This masterclass series brings Professor Gary Marchant, Regents' and Foundation Professor of Law at Arizona State University and Faculty Director of the Center for Law, Science and Innovation, to five Australian cities between 22 June and 1 July 2026. In each city, Professor Marchant delivers a core presentation on governing AI and emerging technology, followed by open Q&A and a moderated panel tailored to local regulatory priorities.

  • Full 3.5-hour masterclass with Professor Gary Marchant, moderated by the AELERT CEO Adam Slater
