About this Event
Some say that you are your child’s first teacher. You are also your child’s first advocate.
To advocate means to “support or promote the interests of a cause or group,” but how can you promote the best interests of your child in a meeting that uses vocabulary specific to educators? Or, how could you teach your child how to advocate for themselves if you are unsure what accommodations best fit your child’s learning style?
Join the Enoch Pratt Free Library in discussing disability awareness and advocacy in the educational setting. Winifred Winston from Dyslexia Advocation and the Black and Dyslexic Podcast will facilitate this conversation with panelists of diverse backgrounds, expertise, and perspectives (educator, parent, etc.).
Panelists will provide tips and insight based on their roles, experiences, and overall knowledge that will equip you in the journey to advocating for your child in an educational setting.
Topics include: IEPs v. 504 plans, educational vocabulary/terms, dyslexia, and more!
To request accommodations, please contact Programs and Outreach at (410) 396-5494 or [email protected] by Wednesday, January 8th.
