Join professional architecture photographer Marie-Hélène Bilodeau on an exciting photography adventure through the picturesque downtown streets and iconic buildings of Calgary. This workshop is designed to enhance your photography skills, explore the beauty of the city's architecture, and inspire you to capture special moments through your lens. Whether you use a smartphone or a DSLR camera, this workshop will help you refine your photography skills and learn how to create stunning images.
The workshop will begin by emphasizing the importance of creative observation and providing a general understanding of camera functions and techniques for taking great pictures. Marie-Hélène will teach you about digital camera settings, such as drive modes, metering modes, white balance, focus modes, and more. You will also learn how to capture the unique atmosphere in your images by covering the basics of composition, light management, perspective, and angles.
While ideas and exercises are presented to the group, Marie-Hélène will also spend one-on-one time with each participant, challenging you to expand your photographic horizons at your own pace and offering guidance to help you achieve the desired results. This personalized approach ensures that you receive individual attention and support throughout the workshop.
During the workshop, you will explore various locations in downtown Calgary, including prominent architectural landmarks like The Bow Building and Calgary Tower, as well as charming and lesser-known spots. Marie-Hélène will share her approach to architecture photography and provide advice on techniques and angles to help you capture the essence of these beautiful structures. Additionally, you'll learn interesting stories and fun facts about the streets and locations you visit, enriching your cultural experience.
Who is this for: This workshop (max 10 participants) is perfect for those who want to refine their photography skills and explore the beauty of this vibrant city. Whether you are a beginner or an intermediate photographer, this workshop is tailored to suit all levels and interests.
Suggested age group is 12 years and older. If you come with younger children, please provide appropriate supervision to them in your care during the workshop. Please note that participants will need to be prepared for a moderate amount of walking, approximately 3-4 kilometers.
What you need to bring: All you need is a camera, whether it's a smartphone or a DSLR/mirrorless camera, and basic familiarity with operating your equipment. The workshop will take place rain or shine, so dress appropriately for the weather and wear suitable footwear to ensure your comfort throughout the adventure.
Meeting Point: Harmony Park (115 4 Ave SW), by the tables and the trees on the building side. Please arrive 5-10 minutes before the start time of the workshop. Suggested parking place nearby: 124 - 3rd Avenue SW, Lot #265 (permits 3hrs+ parking time)
