Advent Procession of Lessons & Carols in Oakland

The Advent Procession of Lessons & Carols marks the beginning of the Advent season, a time of reflection, anticipation, and spiritual preparation for the celebration of Christmas. Through scripture readings and music from across the centuries, the service weaves the story of salvation, from creation to the coming of Christ.

The choir will open with William Byrd's powerful anthem Rorate Coeli ("Drop down, ye heavens"). Interspersed throughout the readings will be familiar hymns and exquisite works by Brahms, Warlock, Bruckner, Praetorius, Guest, Gibbons, Kodaly, and Dupré.
