Advancing Racial Justice: Convention on the State of Data 2026

Thursday 16 April 2026 | 9:30am–5pm

Euston, London*

Join us for a one-day convention exploring how data and evidence can drive meaningful action on racial inequality, and what must change to strengthen that impact.

Hosted by the Race Equality Foundation, the Centre on the Dynamics of Ethnicity and the Joseph Rowntree Foundation, this event brings together policymakers, researchers, funders and VCSE leaders to examine both:

· The progress made in producing and using data to expose and tackle racial inequality

· The data and evidence gaps, exclusions and structural barriers that continue to limit change

From national surveys such as EVENS, to health equity work, to work on poverty and ethnicity, evidence has played a crucial role in shaping national policy debates and advancing racial justice. Lived experience and community-led research have also strengthened how racism is understood and challenged. Yet, how data are collected, interpreted and funded shapes what is seen, prioritised and acted upon. This convention examines the 'state of data' to build an agenda that foregrounds racial justice.

Confirmed speakers include: Gary Younge, Manchester University; Naz Zaman, Inclusive North; Delan Devakumar, University College London. There will be contributions from national data bodies, health leaders, local government and research funders.

This conference creates space to reflect, connect and move forward together.

Attendance is free, with tickets limited to one per person.

*Exact venue details are to follow.

To support voluntary and community sector involvement, a small number of travel bursaries are available for VCSE participants from outside of London. Details of the bursary scheme are available by emailing: [email protected].
