About this Event
The Improvised Movie is a challenging format which is essential learning for anyone interested in creating genre-based narrative improv shows, such as the Improvised Hallmark Movie and the Improvised Slasher. In this seven week class, students will learn the skills needed to improvise a show that feels like a movie that’s being made up in real time! Students will learn how to lean into acting styles and genre tropes to create characters and situations that lovingly parody the source material. Students will practice scenic painting with screenplay language, to build the world of the show as an ensemble. This class will culminate in a run of four performances, leaning into a specific genre developed by the class with the guidance of the instructor. The prerequisite for this class is completion of Level Five Improv at Stomping Ground Comedy Theater or graduation from an equivalent training program with permission from the Training Center Director.
Topics in this course include:
- Playing character and genre tropes with commitment
- Using camera angles and editing techniques to heighten scenes and tell as story
- Playing the beats while still allowing for discovery in the moment
- Working as an ensemble to support the protagonist and make big choices
