Advanced Book Binding: Coptic Codex (June 1st, 2025)

Description: In this four hour course students will dive into the history of the coptic technique and learn how to bind a book using the coptic stitch. Coptic binding refers to methods of bookbinding developed in Egypt as early as the 2nd century AD to the 11th century. Coptic bound books utilize a chain-like stitch connecting sections of paper which allow the book to lie flat when opened. This method of binding is used to this day in mass producing hardcover books of all sizes!

About the Instructor:

Lex Turnbull (they/them) is a southerner who approaches art as a jack-of-all-trades, specializing in books and paper, printmaking, sculpture and everything in between. As an educator, it is their goal to provide students with instructions, resources and the exchange of ideas so that folks feel confident about pursuing independent creative production beyond the walls of a classroom. They have a pretty expansive movie and book collection, but would love to hear what your favorites are (and why).

Is my registration/ticket transferable?

Yes, please notify us before ticket sales end about any transfer of puchase.

What is the refund policy?

We will refund any ticket requested for any reason up to 7 days before the course date. If possible we will make every effort to transfer tickets to future course dates if contacted more than 24 hours before the course begins. If the class cannot run as scheduled, purchaser will have the option of a full refund or credit towards ta future class.
