About this Event
This advanced beekeeping class is recommended for beekeepers who have had successfully overwintered their bees, understand the biology of honey bees and are ready to advance their skills.
The ultimate goal of any homesteader is to be self-sufficient. Nothing is more rewarding than being able to say you have independence and food security. If one of your goal is to be sustainable and produce some extra income from your beekeeping hobby, than this class is for you.
Daniel Kneblewski will share and teach you how to come out of spring with your hives, grow, split, breed, queen catch, market and sell honey. It is highly recommended you complete the beginner beekeeping series at Generations Marketplace before attending this class.
This local and custom program is based on the Ontario Beekeeping Manual, experiences gained from master beekeepers and breeders, and Daniel’s 7 years of experience. With Daniel’s full program and classes completed you have the potential to grow up to 10-20 hives. In this 2 hour class Daniel goes over the following:
- Spring feeding and mite treating overwintered hives
- Learn how to be overall sustainable for the rest of your beekeeping journey
- Feeding and triggering Queen laying
- Counting brood frames and making splits
- How to easily make nucs and queens in the spring and summer
- How to mark and track queens
- How to sell queens and nucs
- How to increase honey yields
- How to predict your year, honey yields, and overall growth from start to end
After completing the beginner series and this advanced beekeeping class, you will have learned what Daniel has to offer… and helped him achieve his goal – make you an independent beekeeper!
This class is not for someone who wishes to become a full-time commercial operator; however, these classes are an excellent foundation if you choose this career path in the future.
In this class, Daniel will present a comprehensive slideshow and perform example inspections with an empty hive and labelled frames. Be prepared to take notes. Checklists and handouts will be provided in this class. A digital copy of the slides will be to each student after the class.
