ADVANCE BASE x MOONTYPE x Signs FollowingAdvance Base is the melancholic soft-rock project of Chicago songwriter Owen Ashworth (formerly of Casiotone for the Painfully Alone), who crafts minimalist, nostalgia-soaked ballads with electric piano, Omnichord, samplers, drum machines, and his warm conversational baritone. His acclaimed 2018 album Animal Companionship—praised by GoldFlakePaint and Various Small Flames—helped cement his reputation as one of indie music’s most empathetic storytellers, followed by releases like Wall of Tears, Live at Home, and the 2022 single “Little Sable Point Lighthouse.” Described by critics as everything from “weirdly uplifting lo-fi” to “a Raymond Carver short story collection set to music,” Ashworth continues to build a quietly powerful body of work centered on intimate characters and tender emotional truths.

Moontype’s second album, I Let the Wind Push Down On Me (out May 23, 2025 on Orindal Records), captures the band’s rebirth as lead singer and bassist Margaret McCarthy embraces solitude, emotional honesty, and the beauty of small moments. Following their 2021 debut, the Chicago indie rock outfit expanded its lineup, deepened its creative chemistry through weekly jam sessions, and shaped songs that balance vulnerable lyricism with bold, unpredictable arrangements. From the shimmering single “Long Country” to introspective tracks born from personal upheaval, the album chronicles McCarthy’s growth and the band’s collective evolution—an intimate, invigorating document of confronting dark emotions, trusting the process, and emerging stronger together.
