Explore touch as a way to connect to the present and to each other through the evolving installation in the Gallery
About this Event

This workshop led by artist Tara Carroll offers a relaxed space to slow down and engage with the senses, inviting you to become an active part of the work.

Through guided exercises, playful actions and cosy chats, we will consider how touch relates to exploring our surroundings, ourselves, connecting with others and accessibility. We will work collaboratively to explore how touch is transferred across time, space, and bodies.

By engaging with the work, we enter into community with others we may never have met. Participants will touch, engage and add to the communal installation while creating collaboratively a playful audio description of the work.

Tara Carroll is a socially engaged and collaborative artist. Their work takes the form of installation, performance, participation, community building, advocacy and creative social spaces. During difficult times, it was Tara’s community that empowered them to carve new pathways of creativity, interdependence and care (real care). The work Tara creates is to return this gift to people who also feel outside of art spaces, together breaking down preconceptions of what art can be to access unique perceptions of ourselves.

The workshop will take place outside of gallery hours for quieter sensory friendly engagement. This is an adult workshop suitable for anyone new to or curious about contemporary art. Confirmation of attendance will be requested closer to the time.

This event is part of Gallery Takeover 2026, a four-day summer programme where the Gallery is dedicated to artistic activity, workshops and conversation.
