Have you heard about the art of Furoshiki? Furoshiki are traditional Japanese wrapping cloths that are used to wrap and/or to transport goods as well as for gift giving. Learning about furoshiki will enrich your awareness for both Japanese art and traditions while improving your awareness for environmental issues.
Furoshiki has gained much fame worldwide in recent years as an eco-friendly and relatively inexpensive alternative for wrapping gifts. It is a way of presenting a very stylishly wrapped gift and serves as a replacement for all those plastic bags and store-bought gift wrappings which end up thrown out and in landfills. Try this during the gift giving season. I assure you that it will make an impression - especially for your eco-friendly family and friends.
It is traditional that if you should receive a gift wrapped in furoshiki, that you should return the favor by presenting the gift giver with a gift wrapped within the same cloth.
These kits will be available on Tuesday, December 10th, in the Library Rotunda while supplies last. They are intended for adults as the kits will contain sewing needles and detailed instructions. For more information, please contact Yvonne at 603-624-6550 ext. 7620 or email [email protected]
Happy crafting!
