Is your New Year’s Resolution to finally try roller derby? Well this is your sign to start! In these four 2-hour practices, you will learn basic skating skills with a roller derby flair. At the end of the series, you will be invited to become a member of Rose City Rollers and continue your derby journey! No prior experience is necessary, we will teach you everything you need to know! And we even provide rental skates and gear (it’s included in your registration!) so you don’t have to get your own just yet. Wow! So easy!
When: Saturdays, 8 to 10 am (1/4, 1/11, 1/18, 1/25)

This program is for skaters who are:
- 18+ years old
- Able to stand on skates unassisted
- Get up from a fall without help
- Skaters who identify with the WFTDA Statement on Gender: https://wftda.org/wftda-gender-statement
The skills covered include: standing and falling, stopping, and crossovers. More advanced skaters will learn backwards skating, lateral movement, and transitions (changing from forwards to backwards skating while rolling). While these are basic skating skills, they are taught through a roller derby lens and layered with light pack drills.
What you’ll need:
- Skates, Pads, Helmet – Don’t have your own? No sweat! Our gear lending library has you covered and loaners are included in your reservation for the program!
- Mouthguard – Sisu is our preferred brand because it can be remolded, We offer them for $20.
- Water bottle – hydrate, hydrate, hydrate.
- Snacks – bring a small snack that will help give you energy. Protein bars are great.
