SPONSOR: Providing Autism Links and Support and UCF Center for Autism and Related Disabilities have teamed to provide this training to Florida evaluators at a significant discount compared to standard ADOS training options.
PRIMARY AUDIENCE: This workshop training is geared specifically toward psychologists/psychiatrists, social workers, Occupational therapists, Medical Doctors, Speech Language Pathologists, Behavior Analysis to be a part of a team to conduct the assessment and or for diagnosis purposes. Only psychologists/psychiatrists and medical doctors may diagnosis, others can be part of the team to diagnosis.
The Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule, Second Edition (ADOS-2) improves an instrument already viewed as "the gold standard" for observational assessment of autism spectrum disorder (ASD). This workshop is a 2-day in person clinical training course on using the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule (ADOS) to identify people with autism spectrum disorders (ASD). The ADOS is a structured interaction and interview session with the person suspected of having an ASD designed to assess social and communication behaviors. It can be used with young children to adults and with people who are nonverbal to those who are verbal. The course is intended for individuals with previous training and experience in diagnostic assessment of ASD and other neurodevelopmental conditions. You'll have the opportunity to practice scoring while observing an ADOS-2 administration. The workshop focuses primarily on Modules 1 through 4.
The training is designed for clinical professionals. For researchers, this workshop is a rerequisite to more intensive training offered by the ADOS authors, designed to achieve the high reliability levels needed in research. Participants must bring an ADOS manual to the workshop of their own or purchase one with registration.
LEARNING OJECTIVES:
1. Describe the uses of the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule -2 (ADOS-2).
2. Explain how the ADOS-2 is administered.
3. Utilize the ADOS-2 for diagnosis and assessment in clinical and/or educational settings.
CERTIFIED WPS TRAINER: Dr. Michael Morrier
Dr. Morrier is an Associate Professor at the Emory Autism Center in the Department of Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences, Emory University School of Medicine. Dr. Morrier received his bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Massachusetts-Amherst; his master’s degree in special education from the University of Georgia; and his doctorate degree in Special Education from Georgia State University. Dr. Morrier has been a Board-Certified Behavior Analyst since 2007. He was origin certified on the Autism Diagnostic Interview-Revised (ADI-R) in 1997 and the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule (ADOS) in 1998, both of which he has been using clinically and for research to diagnosis young children suspected of being on the autism spectrum.
Since 2015, Dr. Morrier has been involved with expanding the capacity of community-based licensed psychologists to identify and diagnosis young children suspected of autism by training providers on how to use the ADOS-2 in their clinical practices. Dr. Morrier’s current research is focusing on validation of a Smartphone app used to diagnosis children referred from their pediatrician after failing the M-CHAT-R/F, as well as piloting a remote telehealth assessment protocol for young children at high-risk for autism referred by their early intervention district.
Dr. Morrier previously participated on the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Autism Surveillance project (ADDM Network) as an expert clinical reviewer from 1999 – 2020. Dr. Morrier is currently on the editorial boards of the Journal for Autism and Development Disorders and the Journal of Special Education. He is past President of the Georgia Division for Early Childhood subdivision (2015-2021).
