About this Event
** This training is only available to West Lothian Council staff. Please ensure you book using your Council email address. Any bookings made using non-council email addresses will be cancelled. **
Please arrive on time for the training. We will start at 9.30 am. There is a small car park at Eliburn.
Lunch is not provided, but there are ample shops in the vicinity, or you can bring your own.
The Administration of Medic*tion Training is a mandatory session and an accredited course, delivered by a pharmacist with appropriate clinical qualifications and expertise in this area.
The course has an assessed element, which will determine competency on the day. These will be marked post-training, and managers will be advised of any issues within approximately 5 working days. Thereafter, continuing competency will be monitored through your line management structure.
Learning Outcomes:
By the end of the session, you will have refreshed your knowledge and demonstrated your competency in the following areas:-
- Understand the different classes of Medic*tion
- Know the different forms of Medic*tion and the routes of administration
- The importance of strength, dosage, frequency, and timing
- Understand the difference between generic and brand names
- Know what should appear on medicine labels
- Understand what is meant by homely remedies
- Understand the Council’s and your Service’s policy on Medic*tion
- Have an understanding of the law and handling Medic*tion
- Understand what is involved in the administration of Medic*tion to clients
- Know what records need to be completed in relation to Medic*tion
- Understand how to support clients and adapt to their different needs
- Understand your role in the self-administration of medicines
- Know how clients should be monitored after medicines have been administered
- Know what to do in the event of a medicine error.
- Know where to find information on medicines
