Formés depuis l’enfance à l’art de l’opéra de Pékin, deux amis occupent désormais le haut de l'affiche. L’un étant secrètement amoureux de l’autre, leur amitié et leur carrière sont fragilisés dans un pays bousculé par la révolution culturelle.
Le film sera présenté par Frédéric Charbonneau, professeur au département des littératures de langue française de l’Université McGill.

To celebrate five years of Ciné-histoire, we’re taking you to the Croisette for an incredible journey through history as told through film! Our new program concludes with Chen Kaige’s FAREWELL MY CONCUBINE, winner of the Palme d’Or in 1993.
Trained since childhood in the art of Peking opera, two friends are now leading stars. One of them is secretly in love with the other, and their friendship and careers are strained in a country shaken by the Cultural Revolution.
The film will be introduced by Frédéric Charbonneau, professor in the Department of French Language and Literature at McGill University.
