So much of our lives, are lived within the parameters of the "predicatable". We assume that drivers will stay within their lines, that side-walks are mostly flat, etc. We know the layout of our houses and sometimes we can even go into autopilot moving through our days. Humans' capacity to fill in the blanks, create patterns, and move into this auto-pilot place can be extremely energy efficient and functional... until we are faced with the unexpected.Adaptive Bodies is a 4 part series that will focus on training our selves and bodies with a holistic approach to move through unpredictable situations. The classes will range from stillness based practices, to building neural pathways for sensing the body and where it is in space (interoception and proprioception) to dynamic strength building exercises, to memory puzzles and more. We will be jumping, dodging, wrestling, running, dancing, inverting, crawling, rolling, and so much more!
This event is meant to challenge you within a held and supportive space. This is an opportunity to work through difficulty in a controlled environment so as to be more prepared for challenge when you least expect it.
Beyond anything else - this series is going to be FUN, we are going to play and hone each other with healthy competition (competition as a way to make each other stronger versus break each other down). We will us props and tools, so be prepared for some extra play!
I'm actually beyond excited to be offering this research, it's largely inspired by fighting monkey, Ido Portal, and my teachers (Movement Artisans) in Berlin!! I've spent the last 8-9 years traveling to study under pioneering teachers and I have the honor of bringing this info to Asheville.
I will be inviting a collaborator, Elijah Strongheart in for 1-2 session. He might even lead the second session! Elijah has been deep in the world of adaptive movement through his intimate relationship with the outdoors. He is a 20+ year rock climber, slack liner, high-liner, tree climber, rock hopper, fresh water paddler, acrobat, artist, outdoor guide and so much more. In addition to this he has been deep in the study of Fighting Monkey for multiple years, working with the founder in mentorship and attending a series of workshops and intensives. Elijah and I have collaborated before and we each bring a flavor of creativity and play to this material.
Pricing:
1 session: $40-$80 (sliding scale)
All 4 sessions: $120 - $300
Please venmo @hana-nubia to reserve your spot. Feel free to email [email protected] with any inquiries.
