Adapt or Perish

In 2004, a large group of artists and curators gathered over several evenings to discuss the need for an independent arts publication in Vancouver, and in 2005, the first issue of Fillip magazine was launched. Over the last twenty years, Fillip has published nearly fifty publications, commissioned over forty new artists’ works, published nearly five hundred works of writing, and produced three large-scale public symposia. We’ve also hosted over two hundred free programs, including artists’ talks, lectures, workshops, screenings, reading groups, seminars, and book launches.

You are cordially invited to attend a reception in honour of Fillip’s twenty-year history. We look forward to reconnecting with old friends and collaborators and reaching out to new ones, bringing together our far-flung network for an evening of cheer. Over the course of the evening, assemble with Fillip’s community while we mingle, share stories, and celebrate Fillip’s contributions to contemporary art discourse over libations and small bites.

On the night, we will launch a special edition publication, the Image Index: 2005–2024, and present a Library documenting our twenty-year history, with free gifts and surprise guests! A commissioned sound work by Mnemonic Pulse will set the tone for an evening of celebration and reflection in the elegant setting of Hycroft Manor.
