Course Description:

SPD (sensory processing disorder), "sensory child", "highly sensitive person" are terms we have been hearing more often, especially when it comes to children.

What does that mean? How do we recognize it? What can we do about it?

Join us for a workshop that will teach you all you should know about sensory issues. How to use the 5 element theory to better understand kids and get them to cooperate. You'll also learn how to combine Chinese medicine and other treatment modalities in working with kids who are having sensory and emotional processing challenges.

About The Instructor: Neta Shani

“Sometimes the questions are complicated but the answers are simple” - Dr. Seuss.

The quote above has been guiding Neta since as early as she can remember, always looking for answers, and once she finds them, she keeps her curiosity searching for more. Her first career was as a team leader in a hi-tech startup. Being a parent herself, she learned that her passion was actually helping others. She trained in Chinese Medicine for 4 years, while combining Shiatsu training for 3 years and was on the faculty as a teaching assistant for 3 years. As soon as she completed her training she pursued an extensive year long pediatrics training which has given her many tools but also left her with countless questions such as how to practice Chinese Medicine with kids that fear needles, why do some kids not respond to acupuncture and herbs, etc...

When her twins were about 2 years old, Neta encountered new health challenges with them and was again searching for answers. In the journey to help her own kids, she added some new tools to her practice and without knowing there was a thing called SPD (Sensory Processing Disorder), and started noticing changes in their behavior. More and more kids showed up for sinus issues, sleep disorders, digestion, skin while in the background suffering from SPD. That's when Neta decided she would also aim at helping them with sensory issues. The word got out quickly and her practice turned into about 70% sensory issues, 10% highly sensitive adults, and 20% prenatal/postpartum.

Neta has been working in an official health facility in Israel, later on in California where she has been working in private practice and at Stanford Children’s Hospital, and now she has relocated her family and practice to Austin.
