Craftivism mixes activism and crafting. Use embroidery stitches to raise awareness of environmental, feminist, social or political issues through decorative textile techniques. This class will inspire thought-provoking artworks that merge slogans and compelling imagery into a textile patch.
This workshop will teach you the basic sewing skills needed to create an inspiring and empowering protest badge to decorate/mend/ personalise your clothing.
Use embroidery and textiles as a unique and personal voice inspired by a topic of your choice. The patch can engage with current social/ political issues whilst also adding decoration to your clothing. Why not add the patch to your clothes to cover holes, add strength to areas or add colour and pattern?
This is a sociable event that will be held in the Out of the Blue Drill hall Cafe where refreshments can be bought whilst you embroider!
• Create a design with background and text.
• Learn how to make hand-stitched patches using repurposed materials.
• Learn basic decorative embroidery techniques.
• Prepare and apply Applique and Reverse applique techniques.
