MS’ book club is turning a new page, so book yourselves in for next Thursday! This will be our first meeting since choosing a new book, so it’s a perfect time for you - yes YOU - to join us for some criticism of ✨ze zystem✨ and maybe meet some people?! (we swear we’re nice)❤️
Our goal is to take over the world… um, learn about social (in)justice and activism through the power of regularly-meeting-up-so-you-finally-get-to-read-that-book-you-always-said-you-would-read-but-didn’t-get-around-to-on-your-own.
We’ve chosen to start with Susan Sontag’s Regarding the Pain of Others (2003): With particular interest in war photography, it’s an exploration of how and why suffering is depicted through images: Are photos of war and suffering insightful and meaningful, or do they sensationalise suffering, on the one hand, or desensitise it, on the other? Is possible to understand suffering through photos?
The book can be found as a PDF here: https://faragoarth6929.wordpress.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/08/susan-sontag.pdf
So come join our group as we meet every Thursday at 16.30 to discuss the different chapters, in the office!
Our schedule for the next months look like this:
9th of October - Chapter 1+2,
16th of October - Autumn break
23th of October - Chapter 3-5, 54 pages
30th of October - Chapter 6-9, 32 pages
7th of November - Summarising and rounding off
14th of November - NEW book!
