What if the game of the scene IS the relationship of the scene? What if you could make your scenes feel more like real acting without sacrificing the comedy aspect? What if we can take the focus off of being zany in order to find the best storytelling within the dynamics between real, relatable characters?
In this one-day workshop, we will explore character relationships with the aim of less inventing and more collaborating. We will use exercises rooted in the philosophy of acting coaches such as Sanford Meisner and Uta Hagen and pair that with old-school Chicago improv philosophy from Second City and IO.
Improv experience preferred, no theatrical training necessary.
Robin Johnstone has been an improviser for two decades. She has graduated from several training centers, including IO West, Second City, and UCB. She has taught children’s improv workshops in Los Angeles and intro to improv at La Nuit in New Orleans. She was cast in three house teams and produced several other shows in Los Angeles. Festival performances include Chicago Improv Festival, Chicago Sketch Fest, LA Improv Festival, Dirty South Improv Festival, New Orleans Improv Festival, ComedySportz Festivus, and ComedySportz World Tournament.
