About this Event
Acoustic Eidolon’s original sound is created by the mixing of diverse musical backgrounds and their unusual instrumentation, including the one-of-a-kind double neck guitjo – an instrument of Joe Scott’s own design, praised by USA Today as a “beautiful harp-like sounding instrument ... like nothing we’ve ever heard before.” Classically-trained cellist Hannah Alkire studied with G. Magyar of the Hungarian String Quartet and is recognized internationally for her emotional, impeccable playing and for taking the cello places it’s never been before. Local string students will also get to perform their arrangements.
In 1995, Hannah, a studio cellist, received a call to play on a Boulder ensemble’s record. Hannah listened in amazement as directions to the recording studio told her to turn on a small road near her home, and then turn down her own street past her house! Across the street and three houses away lived Joe.
A few years later, Joe called Hannah. He had a feeling the harp-like sound of the guitjo, combined with the warmth of Hannah’s cello, would be beautiful together. So on a snowy day in February 1998, they got together to play for the first time. What happened next was magic. Joe and Hannah cleared their schedules to rehearse full-time, forming what would become Acoustic Eidolon. They’ve been married since 2001.
