Acid Coco are a Colombian duo through whose veins flows the Pacific, the Caribbean, the Andes, the jungle and more. Their debut album, Mucho Gusto, was released in 2020, giving birth to a musical project born of irresistible costero (coastal) rhythms, yet raised in the club.
Importantly, they never stray from one fundamental principle: this is music that celebrates life, with all its ups and downs. Of Mucho Gusto, Songlines wrote: “The sonic identity of this album is diverse, but very clear. Acid Coco genre-cross without losing their emotive yet defiant feel”, while XLR8R offered up: “The project channels cumbia, punk, champeta, reggaeton, and other tropical rhythms with electronic sounds.”
In 2022, Acid Coco released their second album Camino al mar in which they recover the way of experiencing feelings intensely as they are typically lived in Colombian lands with which Acid Coco seduces us, Afro-Caribbean rhythms mixed with electronic winks. The first single was “Hoy, Como Siempre”, channelling Afro-Caribbean rhythms with a sly electronic wink; lyrically, there is an intensity that could only come from the way Colombians live their lives, hearts worn on sleeves.
There are stories that could have come from the salsatecas of Cali, the picós of Cartagena or any club in the world, but through Paulo’s audacious production there is no doubt where we are. Dembow, cumbia, reggaeton, even in the throbbing Caribbean folk “Por Las Venas” or the chiptune melody of “Aquí y Allá”, there is no other place where we can be than the Caribbean coast of Colombia. It is music of lived experiences, of growing up in Colombian clubs either through their violence or through their daily realities. Culture is transmitted. His singles “Hoy como siempre”, “Soy la fuerza” and “Todo me lleva a ti” have had an impact on selections from major channels such as BBC sounds, Bandcamp Daily, Radio Nacional de Colombia, and counting.

Acid Coco ist ein kolumbianisches Duo, durch dessen Adern der Pazifik, die Karibik, die Anden, der Dschungel und mehr fließen. Ihr Debütalbum „Mucho Gusto“ erschien 2020 und brachte ein musikalisches Projekt hervor, das in unwiderstehlichen costero-Rhythmen (Küstenrhythmen) verwurzelt ist – aber im Club aufgewachsen ist.
Wichtig ist dabei, dass sie sich nie von einem grundlegenden Prinzip entfernen: Dies ist Musik, die das Leben feiert – mit all seinen Höhen und Tiefen.
Über Mucho Gusto schrieb Songlines:
„Die klangliche Identität dieses Albums ist vielfältig, aber sehr klar. Acid Coco überschreiten Genregrenzen, ohne ihren gefühlvollen und zugleich kämpferischen Ausdruck zu verlieren.“
XLR8R ergänzte:
„Das Projekt kanalisiert Cumbia, Punk, Champeta, Reggaetón und andere tropische Rhythmen mit elektronischen Klängen.“
Im Jahr 2022 veröffentlichten Acid Coco ihr zweites Album „Camino al mar“, in dem sie die intensive Art und Weise wieder aufleben lassen, wie Gefühle in kolumbianischen Regionen typischerweise erlebt werden – eine Art, mit der uns Acid Coco verführt: Afro-karibische Rhythmen vermischt mit elektronischen Anspielungen.
Die erste Single war „Hoy, Como Siempre“, die Afro-Karibik-Rhythmen mit einem augenzwinkernden elektronischen Touch verbindet. Lyrisch spürt man eine Intensität, wie sie nur aus dem kolumbianischen Lebensgefühl entstehen kann – mit dem Herzen auf der Zunge getragen.
Es sind Geschichten, die ebenso gut aus den Salsatecas von Cali, den Picós von Cartagena oder jedem beliebigen Club der Welt stammen könnten – doch durch Paulos kühne Produktion ist sofort klar, wo wir uns befinden.
Dembow, Cumbia, Reggaetón – selbst im pulsierenden karibischen Folklore-Stück „Por Las Venas“ oder der Chiptune-Melodie von „Aquí y Allá“ – gibt es keinen Zweifel: Wir befinden uns an der karibischen Küste Kolumbiens.
Diese Musik ist voller gelebter Erfahrungen – vom Aufwachsen in kolumbianischen Clubs, sei es durch deren Gewalt oder deren alltägliche Realität. Kultur wird weitergegeben.
Die Singles „Hoy como siempre“, „Soy la fuerza“ und „Todo me lleva a ti“ fanden Beachtung in bedeutenden Medien wie BBC Sounds, Bandcamp Daily, Radio Nacional de Colombia – und werden weiterhin gefeiert.
