Join disability-led and disability-serving organizations—including the Rocket City Chapter of the National Federation of the Blind of Alabama, AIDB Huntsville Regional Center, Rev Up Alabama, the Alabama Disabilities Advocacy Program (ADAP), The Disability Resource Network, Serving, Organizing, Advocating, & Reflecting (SOAR) student leaders, and the League of Women Voters of the Tennessee Valley—for Accessible Voting: Claim Your Voting Power! on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, from 3:00–5:00 p.m. at the University of Alabama Huntsville Exhibit Hall Conference Training Center at 1410 Ben Graves Dr NW,
Huntsville, AL 35816. This free, interactive event is led by and centered on people with disabilities and is designed to empower voters with disabilities, build confidence in navigating the voting process, and foster understanding and collaboration across the disability community. People with a wide range of disabilities and lived experiences are encouraged to attend, share their perspectives, learn from one another, and help identify solutions to barriers that can make voting more difficult. Participants will take part in three hands-on experiences. First, they can explore accessible voting tools, including practicing with Alabama’s ExpressVote voting machine, checking their voter registration and polling place, making registration updates, learning about absentee voting options, and exploring accessible voting protections and election resources. Second, participants will share experiences and solutions through facilitated conversations about voting barriers, ways to overcome challenges, reducing voter apathy, and making elections more accessible and welcoming. Finally, participants will become stronger self-advocates through discussions led by disability community leaders and experts on disability etiquette, self-advocacy, and strategies for creating meaningful change. The event also provides an opportunity for allies to learn how they can support greater accessibility in their communities and across Alabama. Participants will leave with practical tools, greater confidence, and strategies to advocate for themselves and work with others to improve accessibility. Everyone is welcome.
