Accessible by Design: Crafting Assistive Tools with 3D Printing
Schedule
Sat May 09 2026 at 02:00 pm to 05:00 pm
UTC+08:00Location
284 River Valley Rd | Singapore, SG
About this Event
Standard product design often overlooks the needs of People with Disabilities (PwDs). A simple task like using chopsticks or opening a can can be a daily barrier. Through this Global Accessibility Awareness Day (GAAD) event, you will get to join 55 Minutes and Salvage Garden for an intimate, hands-on workshop where we turn empathy into action.
To ensure every participant receives personalised guidance, we are limiting this session to 12 participants. You will have the direct support needed to produce your own 3D-printed assistive tool.
What you will gain
- Discover the importance of co-designing with others, the challenges likely to arise in the process, and the specific problems commonly faced by PwDs
- A guided tutorial on Tinkercad. You’ll learn to transform a digital concept into a physical solution
- Prototype real-world assistive devices specifically designed for limited dexterity, such as adaptive chopstick holders or ergonomic can openers
- Discuss the future of assistive technology, thermoforming, and digital fabrication
- Take home your own 3D-printed tool and a new framework for inclusive thinking
Who should attend
This workshop is ideal for:
- Students
- Designers
- Makers
- Educators
- Volunteers
- Anyone curious about hands-on product design and co-creation! No prior experience with Tinkercad is necessary.
About the organisers
55 Minutes is a design studio dedicated to creating human-centered solutions. This workshop is part of our celebration of GAAD.
Salvage Garden is a social enterprise and maker-space specialising in custom assistive solutions, helping PwDs navigate the world with dignity and ease.
