We are also featuring four professional works this season:
1- Kate Franklin
Description of Work: Kate Franklin creates a work in collaboration with the Senior Showcase students and featuring an original score by composer Jeremy O'Neill, Beam is a collection of as many different ways to fall that we could think of - including (and especially) - upward.
2- Sarah Hutton & Aiden Cass
Description of Work: Sarah & Aiden are exploring everyday behaviours to source movement to create the choreography of this new work. The behaviours they are interested in collecting are types of physical contact people use in their relationships. Specifically, behaviours that we inherit, subconsciously develop, or that communicate complex emotions.
3- Eric Cheung
Description of Work: Re:1974 is a re:embodiment of my Father's immigration story from Hong Kong to Canada in 1974 to the present day. From his son's perspective, recollecting, remembering and reliving the struggles and tribulations that he went through to start this new life for us, and observing how his experiences have affected his physical and emotional health in pursuit of stability.
4- Novel Movement https://www.novelcreative.ca/
Missy Reyes, Mickee Reyes, Mekaela Reyes, Marlowe Reyes.
Novel Movement is an emerging collective of creatives who explore dance in an experimental and open environment. Most members started their dance journey as part of Hip Hop competitive teams, creating a deeper chemistry over the years and allowing them to build this creative space now. With a focus on Contemporary, Street Dance influences and Theatre, each dancer has honed in on their own unique strengths which they use to share their stories. Novel believes that the possibilities are endless and that movement should constantly be explored as it continues to evolve.
