Whether you are a purely abstract painter already, a representational painter or somewhere in the middle, using the flexibility of abstraction to explore principles in art is a great boost for your work. Gone is the variable of whether you’ve rendered an object well. Without that variable, you are free to dig deeply into considerations such as value, design, and color. You are also free to create a painting that expresses the feelings that enliven you, so your work has an appealing potency.
This workshop will focus on design and composition. We’ll cover aspects of a strong design and how to create one, as well as common stumbling blocks you’ll want to be aware of and avoid. To do that, we’ll study two different methods for starting and developing an abstract painting. I will be working in oils, but the workshop can be done in other mediums as well. You may take this workshop without having taken Abstraction 101 with its focus on value.
A materials list will be emailed to you upon registration.
