Abstract Textile Self Portraits with Maia McHugh
About this Event
How can we use art - a primarily visual medium - to express feelings - something so invisible? The answer lies in touch.
This workshop explores how we can use the texture and tactility of different fabrics to express ourselves and explore how we can live within the dissonance of the human condition.
Participants will be led through the creation of a textile self-portrait based around open discussions about mending, discard, concealment and disruption.
Techniques including simple weaving, sewing and collage will be employed. Whilst sewing materials will be provided, there will also be fabric glue available so that no prior sewing or textiles experience is necessary.
Participants will come away having considered how to carry difficult parts of themselves through their lives without fixating on changing or hiding everything, and will have learnt a new mindfulness technique to re-situate themselves within their body.
All of our activities and workshops are kindly donated by each of the practitioners for the benefit of the community.
This means that luckily for us, all of the tickets are FREE of charge.
If you'd like to donate however, there will be a collection box & card reader available at The Undercroft Gallery on your given activity date.
All of the donations will go directly to your workshop host as a thank you for helping us make this festival possible!
Please note: although these tickets are FREE they are limited capacity.
If you change your mind or cannot attend for whatever reason PLEASE refund your ticket so that another guest may come along.
