Abstract Collage Workshop with Amy Geller

Students will create abstract collages on card stock using materials provided – decorative papers, construction paper, recycled holiday cards, colored pencils, watercolor and oil pastels. If they wish, students may bring their own materials such as magazines, calendars, etc. There are many approaches to creating collage. In my practice I proceed with no preconceived notion, placing either torn or cut paper one after the other. In their placement I consider shape, pattern and color combinations to create dynamic, aesthetically pleasing compositions. This is a guideline to my process. Students are encouraged to explore whatever collage-making paths they discover. We all learn from each other.

Amy Geller has exhibited her artwork in the juried annual NY Studio School alumni exhibition, BWAC bi-yearly shows, and in LIC at The Local Project, LIC-A and LIC Arts Open. She attended Cornell for three years and received a BA in fine art from Hunter College and an MA in illustration from FIT. Her work is in private collections throughout the NY region.
