SEBASTIAN SANCHEZ
Flamenco singer Sebastian Sanchez was born in 1995 in Puerto de Santa María on the southern
coast of Spain in the province of Cádiz, birthplace of many legendary flamenco singers. Born
into a family of flamenco artists, his uncle is the well-known flamenco dancer Paco del Puerto, a
veteran of many international performances. When he was two years of age, Sebastian began
listening to and clapping out the complex rhythms of flamenco. His father Vicente Sanchez
accompanied him on the guitar, both in his practice sessions and early performances. It is from
this experience that he developed his life-long love for the flamenco guitar which he learned to
play to accompany himself in his studies of flamenco singing or, as it is called in Spain, "el
cante." At the age of 16 he began private classes with the flamenco singer Nazareth Cala,
herself a former student of the revered flamenco singers Naranjito de Triana and José de la
Tomasa. At the age of seventeen, he traveled to Seville to begin training in flamenco singing at
the Fundacion Flamenco Cristina Heeren. Upon graduation he began working in many flamenco
venues in Seville with some of Spain's most prestigious flamenco performers: among them
Carmen Ledesma and Juan Betanzos. His career continued with appearances in Madrid,
Germany and Poland. In 2017 he was a finalist in the competition Premio Nacional Bailes Por
Alegrias Peña La Perla de Cai.
Since then, Sebastian Sanchez has traveled the width and length of Spain, performing in venues
as diverse as flamenco peñas, flamenco clubs and large theatres. The following are some of the
major venues where he has appeared:
Peña Flamenca Paco Cepero in Puerto de Santa María
Hotel Alfonso XIII in Seville with Carmen Ledesma and Pepe Torres
Teatro Quintero in Seville
Auditorio Municipal Granada with the flamenco gutarist Alberto López
