Abolitionists Hosted the World's Biggest Star: PT Barnum's Jenny Lind
Hartford - Then & Now

Join us in person - June 23, and July 5!!

As part of the America 250 CT celebration, Opera Connecticut (an affiliate of the America 250/CT Commission), in collaboration with Liberty Christian Center International, will present a 2-part series of events about the Hartford CT July 5, 1851 appearance of the Swedish singing star Jenny Lind at the Fourth Congregational Church (now Liberty Christian Center International).

The concert on July 5 at 4:00 pm will have selections from the July 5, 1851 concert, with Maestro Doris Lang Kosloff conducting, relevant spirituals performed by The Deacon Bill Beckham Singers led by Maestro Wayne Dixon, and a presentation from Bryan Greene about Jenny Lind's role in the abolitionist movement.

Mr. Greene has written about music, history, and race and society for the Washington Post and Poverty & Race. He was a consulting producer on the 2021 Academy Award-winning music documentary Summer of Soul.

Go visit this church! The steeple and portico were relocated from the original site (where the DUNKIN' ballpark is)!

We are proud to be supported by Center Church/First Church of Christ UCC, Embassy of Sweden, Hartford Yard Goats, Liberty Christian Center INC., The LINKS, INC (Farmington Valley Chapter), Musical Club of Hartford, PT Barnum Museum, and our many individual donors to bring this program to you.
