Abigail Millar Todd (harp)
Abigail Millar Todd is a musician from Shetland. After moving to the Scottish Highlands she began playing the clarsàch (folk harp) through the Gaelic cultural organisation the Fèisean nan Gàidheal. In 2012 she began attending Aberdeen City Music School, whereupon she transitioned to the classical harp, and studied under Alina Bzhezhinska Lazorkina. A year later, Abigail became a member of the National Youth Orchestra of Scotland when she was 13. She went on to attend the Music School of Douglas Academy (Glasgow) and Chetham’s School of Music (Manchester) before beginning her studies at Norges Musikkhøgskole (Oslo) under Isabelle Perrin in 2017. In 2020 she moved to London to continue her studies under harpist Gabriella Dall’Olio at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance. She has participated in masterclasses with Urszula Mazurek, Fabrice Pierre, Henning Kraggerud, Sylvain Blassel, Virginie Gout-Zschäbitz, Maho Yamamoto, and more.
Abigail has played with various orchestras including the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra, Stavanger Symphony Orchestra, Highland Chamber Orchestra and Oslo Kammerorkester. She works in a variety of jazz, folk and popular music settings, which includes composition, arrangement and lyric writing. Abigail has written and directed multidisciplinary performances pertaining to community and environment. She has performed and recorded with bands and artists such as Fieh, Bård Berg, Julie Henrikke, New Banke, Plant, Eminzada and more. In 2022 she played the headline concert of the Oslo Jazz Festival, as part of a reimagining of the works of Radka Toneff. In 2019 she received funding to provide subsided harp tuition to children from less economically privileged backgrounds, and continues to engage in a range of community outreach work through music from education to fundraising.
