Join retired G.P. Martin Pucci for a talk on Scottish obstetrician Alexander Gordon, best known for clearly demonstrating the contagious nature of puerperal sepsis (childbirth fever). By systematically recording details of all visits to women with the condition, he concluded that it was spread from patient to patient by the attending midwife or doctor. On the basis of these conclusions, he advised that the spread could be limited by fumigation of the clothing and burning of the bed linen used by women with the condition and by cleanliness of her medical and midwife attendants. This is a FREE event but booking is essential, either in-person at the gift shop counter, by tel. 01224 33 33 26 or via Eventbrite.
The cafe will be open in advance, so why not also grab lunch, tea/coffee or one of our amazing homemade tray bakes or cakes!
