Latah AARP President’s Memo to Members 20 September 2022
This is a special edition of our Latah AARP Newsletter. It’s without frills and the usual articles & information. This President’s Memo is designed to better inform Members about our Friday, September 30 Legislative Candidates’ Forum, at the University Inn Best Western, and to urge you to Pass the word about the Forum, Invite your friends to attend, and Make your lunch reservation and Attend the Forum yourself. It is important to inform voters and potential voters about the candidates and educate ourselves as to whom we wish to vote for on November 8.
As a starting point, are you registered to vote? If you are not certain, please contact the Clerk’s office at the Latah County Courthouse to determine your status. And, if You are Not registered, what do you need to do to be registered?
Because of Reapportionment and redrawing of Legislative District lines this year, Your Latah AARP Board decided to limit the actual forum to the two representative and one senatorial race for District 6 (we were previously District 5) which covers all of Latah and Lewis Counties plus the Eastern part of Nez Perce County. All three races are contested on November 8 and there are new names on the ballot. Latah County candidates
are also invited to attend our Forum, pass out their literature, visit with attendees between
11:30 and Noon and after our forum at 1:30.
Our September 30 Forum will begin at 11:30, please be there on time. From 11:30 to Noon, there will be a ‘meet and greet’ between attendees and County and Legislative candidates. We also plan to provide an opportunity to register to vote during that time. Lunch will be served promptly at Noon. The Menu is Chicken breast with macaroni & cheese and cost is $15. You need not have lunch, (there will be non-lunch seating in the room) but if you wish to purchase lunch, You must call 208-875-1689 Before Noon Wednesday, September 28.
The Forum will commence promptly at 12:15 and will begin with 3-minute opening statements from each candidate. Questions from the audience will follow. Questions will be submitted in writing, collected, and read by the Moderator from the Podium. This is necessary so everyone can hear each question. Similar questions may be combined, and improper questions will be rejected. Questions may be directed to a specific candidate or to an office. Question and answer will end promptly at 1:15 and candidates will have 90 seconds for closing remarks. We will adjourn the Forum at 1:30. We expect candidates will remain after the Forum for further interaction with attendees.
Thank you for your attention and hoped for attendance. Please ‘share’ this information with family, friends, and others. We will hope to see you on September 30. Please note, Moscow Chamber is ‘hosting’ a candidate forum for Latah County Commissioner candidates at the University Inn at 11:30, Wednesday, September 21. Moscow League of Women Voters is hosting two candidate forums the evenings of October 5 and 6. If you need more information about our AARP forum, contact me at [email protected].
